Michigan takes its cherries seriously, and there are two World's Largest Cherry Pie memorials on the shores of Lake Michigan. At Charlevoix, a world record 17420 pound (7902 kg) cherry pie was baked for the annual cherry festival in 1976. The record held for 11 years, when Traverse City stole the title with a 28000 pound (12701 kg) pie.
